Frequently asked questions
What is an EPD?
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a document that reports a product's environmental impacts, such as its global warming potential (GWP), from a life cycle assessment made to the product category rules (PCR) for that kind of product. An independent verifier checks it and a program operator publishes it.
What is the difference between an industry-wide and a facility-specific EPD?
An industry-wide EPD reports an average across several makers of the same product. A facility-specific EPD reports one maker's product from one plant, using that plant's own data. Each program in your result lists the EPD types it accepts, and the table above shows them for every program.
How long is an EPD valid?
An EPD is valid for 5 years from the date it is issued. Check that your EPD is still valid on the dates the bid specification names.
This tool is for information only. It is not legal or procurement advice. The bid specification and the awarding agency decide what applies. Results reflect the rules as of the date they were last verified. Meeting a limit also depends on the EPD being valid at installation, the PCR, verification and the exact product subcategory.
Bring the bid specification and one product. We will go through which rules apply, which EPD type and PCR you need, and what data the LCA needs from you and your suppliers.
